Eau de parfum
There are different kinds of fragrances in perfumery, including eau de toilette, eau de Cologne, eau de senteur, eau fraîche, and perfume extract. Each one is distinguished by its more or less important concentration, as well as its tenacity and quality of its trail. Here are a few notions about eau de parfum.
What is eau de parfum?
An eau de parfum, also called "Parfum de toilette", or "Esprit de Parfum", contains 7 to 20% of the concentrate, in an alcohol at 90° vol. It has the particularity of creating a remarkable trail on the person wearing it. It is therefore a good compromise between the perfume extract, which is very expensive and very concentrated, and the eau de toilette, which is often too volatile.
The origin of the word "perfume”
The word "perfume" comes from the Latin “per fumum”, which means "through the smoke". Indeed, the priests who once entrusted their prayers and incantations to the gods used to burn precious woods, incense, resins and other expensive substances. The smoke thus produced was very fragrant and is said to be the origin of the word "perfume".
How to apply an eau de parfum?
Eau de parfum is generally applied on clothes (except for fragile materials such as silk, light coloured fabrics or non noble materials), an eau de parfum can also be sprayed on the skin. The product will thus unite with your skin in a mysterious alchemy, exhaling a fragrance that will belong only to you.
For a perfect trail, spray your eau de parfum by tracing a triangle in the air: spray your hair (from a distance not to damage it), then the inside of your jacket or coat, and finish up to the bottom of your hem. This way, you'll be sure to have fragrance all day long.
You can also spray a cloud of your eau de parfum in front of you and walk into this cloud after a few seconds. This way, your fragile clothes or jewellery will not be damaged. In addition, don't forget all the body care (body lotion, soaps, deodorants) that can give a long-lasting scent and allow a better diffusion of the product.
If you wish to sublimate your trail even more, you can pour a few drops of your eau de parfum in the rinsing water of your washing machine. Or, for extra refinement, you can wash your beautiful lingerie with a shower shampoo scented with the same fragrance.
Other perfumery products
There are many types of fragrances in perfumery, and the alcohol concentration of each of them varies. Each brand can call its products as it pleases: eau de parfum, eau de Cologne, eau de senteur or eau fraîche, there are no laws or strict rules.
- The perfume extract is concentrated from 20% to 40%: it is only perceived by the person wearing it and by those close by.
- Eau de parfum can be concentrated from 7% to 30% : it is a good compromise because it combines tenacity and wake. The fragrances of Sylvaine Delacourte are orchestrated as eaux de parfum (their minimum concentration is 15%, but can go up to 20%).
- The eau de toilette concentrated from 6% to 20% is more extroverted: it will be perceived by the people in your wake. It is often less tenacious than the eau de parfum.
Moreover, each type of fragrance (eau de toilette, eau de parfum, or perfume extract) will be orchestrated differently. Nevertheless, some brands choose to keep the same orchestration, simply by varying the degree of concentration from one product to another.
Perfumers say that eaux de parfum are generally denser in "living" natural raw materials than eaux de toilette.
Why does each fragrance change according to the skin?
In order to understand why each fragrance will be different from one person to another, it is important to know that in the hours following the application of the perfume, the base note (the note that fixes the perfume to make it last over time), literally blends with the personal scent of each skin: the magic and richness of the concentrate operates in this way.
In addition, each skin is unique and has its own scent, which evolves according to each person's lifestyle (physical activity, medication, environment...). Furthermore, the scent of a perfume will be influenced by many external factors, such as the place (it will not smell the same in this city or that country), humidity, air quality, climate, etc.
If your fragrance is not sublimated by being applied directly to your skin, try a different eau de parfum until you find the fragrance that will generate compliments around you.
Regulations for eau de parfum
You will notice that each product has very variable concentrations, which will sometimes be similar depending on the fragrance. In fact, there are no regulations regarding eaux de parfum.
The level of tenacity and the quality of the trail will be proof that the perfume has been perfectly orchestrated by the perfumer. Thus, a highly concentrated fragrance will last longer, but it is above all the orchestration of the different scents that will determine the quality of its hold.
The role of eau de parfum
An eau de parfum reflects, like any other fragrance, the personality of the person who wears it. A perfume must be in harmony with you, because it reveals the message that you are going to transmit to others. If it doesn't fit well, your eau de parfum will create a disharmony with your inner self.
In the end, an eau de parfum is much more than just a coating that can be changed according to mood, weather, or time of day, it should be considered as the true reflection of your soul.
Eau de parfum and olfactory heritage
It is important to know that the pleasant smells and tastes encountered in your life play a key role in the choice of your eau de parfum. Indeed, they are the ones that will forge your identity and guide you unconsciously towards the same style of perfume.
Perfume consultations exist to guide you towards the fragrance that will be the echo of your deep identity.
Conclusion
Eau de parfum is an excellent compromise between eau de toilette and perfume extract, and offers, at a reasonable price, a very good wake. If it is made of a lot of natural materials. Eau de parfum will create a unique alchemy with the skin.
