Where to apply your perfume?

In everyday language, we say that we "wear" a perfume, in order to smell good, for ourselves and for others... But come to think of it, wouldn't it also be the perfume that wears us? Let's get to the heart of this, starting with a little terminology.

What's the difference between tenacity and wake?

In order to understand how to apply your fragrance properly, and the terms we are going to use throughout this article, here are two definitions not to be confused:

  • Wake: it is the aura, the trail you leave behind you and in the memory of those you pass.
  • Tenacity: is the lasting power of a perfume. Sometimes it can hold on clothes and on the skin but not diffuse. This happens when the perfume is intimate, introverted.

A perfume is well constructed by the perfumer-creator when its olfactory pyramid is harmonious and balanced. Under these conditions we obtain a scent that is both tenacious and diffusing.

Why is the skin perfect for wearing perfume?

Experience shows that a perfume does not reveal itself and express all its beauty on an olfactory touch like those paper wipes that we use to smell it for the first time.

Natural materials are ideal because they are alive and noble. Wool, cashmere or linen sublimate your perfume.

But it is really the skin with all its singularity that reveals it best, they say "it is not the fragrance that perfumes the person, but the opposite".

Why is the scent of the skin unique?

Skin has its own scent, it is as unique as fingerprints, and this is due to several factors.

  • First, its specific smell is the result of our lifestyle. Diet and medication play an important role, as much as our sedentary active lifestyle.
  • Secondly, the skin's natural hydro-lipidic film, a mixture of perspiration and sebum, is unique to each of us. This is why when excessive sweating, the smell and the holding of your perfume can be altered by humidity. So, to make sure that your perfume is always loyal to you, you can spray the fragrance on your clothes, preferably on natural materials.
  • A well-moisturised skin allows a better holding of the perfume.
  • Also, the scent of the skin varies, depending on its body temperature and the weather. It is different according to your skin type, whether it is rather dry, oily, supple or soft.

How to choose the right perfume?

First of all, it is all about the meeting. It is about the meeting of a fragrance that attracts you with the unique scent of your skin. A magical alchemy is then created.

The more natural raw materials are in a fragrance, the more it will change on the skin, because as we said, natural raw materials are alive and therefore evolving, whereas synthetic products are monolithic and more stable.

The fragrance will therefore blend with this singular smell of skin to create a unique perfume that is yours. The fruit of this chemical encounter is like a third scent.

The fragrance blends so well to your skin that people might stop asking if "You are wearing this or that brand's perfume," but rather, "You smell so good! What perfume do you wear? It is divine!"

In summary, if we deprive ourselves of this infamous skin-perfume encounter, we risk missing out on a truly magical alchemy that could sublimate your perfume. This works for perfumes for men and for women and for teenagers.

Where to spray the eau de parfum?

How to apply a perfume: some strategic points to spray your perfume is wherever you can feel your heartbeat, where your skin is warm:

  • at the base of your neck
  • on each side at the base of the ear (at the hairline, not directly behind the ear)
  • on your chest
  • your navel
  • your wrists
  • in the crook of your elbows

How many layers?

Do not use the whole bottle at once, preserve it, only one spray at each pulse point.

Or as Coco Chanel said, "Spray your perfume on the places where you want to be kissed".

And what about fragrances for men?

Even if Sylvaine Delacourte perfumes are considered to be confidential or niche perfumes, they go beyond the sexes and classifies as unisex perfumes because it is all about emotions they provoke.

Nevertheless men have different ways of applying perfume. Men generally prefer to perfume themselves with a quick gesture. So they can spray eau de toilette, eau de parfum, eau de cologne or eau fraiche on their chest, neck and wrists for a unique imprint.

They can also apply a perfume on their scarf, or even inside their jacket.

Perfuming your clothes

You can apply the perfume on your clothes to intensify your wake, after spraying your perfume on the skin.

Remember: Perfume on the skin + perfume on the clothes = guaranteed wake.

Warning: it is not recommended to perfume yourself in the sun because some natural raw materials, not necessarily only citrus fruits, can cause stains on the sun. Alcohol can give redness. For safety reasons, it is therefore advised to use perfumes on the skin only in the evening.

If you really do not want to perfume your skin, you can only perfume your clothes. A few sprays will be greater, but it all depends on the power of the perfume. The more powerful the perfume, the less you have to spray. It is all in the dosage, you should avoid putting too much perfume, to not bother those around you.

How you should apply a perfume on your clothes?

  • spray your perfume on fabrics made of natural materials like cotton, cashmere, silk, wool or linen.Synthetic clothes risk to be damaged.
  • They say that red color holds better the fragrance, and blue color the least because of the iron-based components it contains.
  • Do not perfume light-colored clothes to avoid staining.
  • Do not perfume jewellery or furs as it may damage them.
  • You can spray eau de toilette directly on your clothes.
  • Regarding eau de parfum, it is better to spray a cloud in front of you and go into it immediately afterwards, this is very pleasant and avoids stains.

A few tips to perfect the wake

  • You can apply your fragrance on your hairbrush or comb. This avoids having to first spray alcohol on your hair, which could slightly damage it.
  • Spray your favorite perfume on a few cotton or cashmere yarn and place them in your clothes and lingerie drawers, or a scented cotton pad in the hollow of your bra.
  • You can use a soap and especially a deodorant of the same line as your perfume. If it does not exist, then choose your scent-free soap, to not create a cacophony with your favourite fragrance.
  • After showering, apply a scented body lotion or cream.
  • If you do not have a perfumed cream with the fragrance of your choice, then take a non-scented body lotion and spray a few drops of your fragrance at the last moment, mix it in the palm of your hand, this smell will sublimate faithfully every inch of your skin.
  • To perfect your wake, include a few drops of eau de toilette in the rinse water of your lingerie, or use the shower gel or shampoo with the same scent.
  • There is a technique that perfume experts call the layering perfume technique. The more you layer different textures (soap, deodorant, milk, cream, talcum perfume and eau de toilette, eau fraiche) of the same fragrance, the more trail and tenacity you will have.
