Choose a perfume for summer

Some people change their perfume according to their age or their style. Others change fragrances according to the seasons and then have a "parenthesis fragrances” which allows them to take an olfactory break from their main ones from time to time. Here are a few recommendations for choosing a fragrance for summer.

How to choose a fragrance for summer?

People who choose their fragrance mainly according to their style might be looking for lightness or exoticism in their summer fragrance, like the light summer outfits that announce the beginning of the holidays.

Holidays often go hand in hand with the desire to discover new sensations.

If, in winter, eaux de parfum were rather favored, summer might make you want to wear the same fragrance, but in eau de toilette or eau fraîche.

Some people like to take a break and completely change their fragrance. If they wear oriental, chypre, gourmand, or rich floral scents, fragrances with a lot of presence, in summer they might move towards fresh, refreshing floral fragrances, or even eaux fraîches or eaux de Cologne

Also, they can be attracted to fragrances that symbolize summer holidays, such as sunny scents (see Facette solaire), marine notes (see Facette marine), and new freshness fragrances for men.

Tips for wearing perfume in the sun in summer

In summer, it is important to follow certain recommendations on how to wear your perfume, as the sun can influence the fragrance a lot. In fact, you should not spray perfume directly on your skin, regardless of its concentration, whether it is an eau de parfum, an eau de toilette, a fresh eau, a cologne, or a summer water.

You can do it only if it is specified on the packaging: "Can be used in the sun".

In addition, you should know that citrus fruits are treated, especially bergamot, in order to remove the photosensitizing particles called furocoumarins. This prevents the fragrance from creating stains. However, other ingredients in the formula can also cause stains, mostly natural ones.

In general, sunlight and perfume should not be mixed. It is therefore best to use perfume only in the evening.

Some non-alcoholic fragrances can also cause stains. Alcohol does not cause stains, but can cause redness if the perfume is worn in the sun and sprayed directly on the skin.

This type of fragrance should therefore be used in the sun only if it is mentioned on the packaging, which has been tested for this specific use.

If you absolutely want to use a perfume on a sunny day, make sure you spray a fragrance only on your clothes and never on your skin.

Choose a signature fragrance symbolizing summer

They can enjoy wearing bright, sunny, fresh, joyful or dynamic fragrances all year round. These fragrances are symbolizing summer, which can give this holiday and summer feeling throughout the year. The summer fragrance then become their signature scent and can be be worn regardless the season.

Some people can be identified with the fragrances symbolizing this season and be attracted by it. The description of a typical profile that deeply belong to the summer category all year round is below.

Each person has many facets in their personality, people cannot be limited by one category. The description below gives only an outline of this type of profile.

Perfumes for summer

Summer attracts a certain type of personality, which can be associated with the "Air" category. This season is particularly appreciated by people with the following characteristics:

  • Personality: very feminine, these people enjoy privacy which gives them a reserved attitude. They have a "maternal" nature and reflect an image of tenderness, sensitivity, modesty and dreaminess (there are a certain artistic character). However, a great strength and determination are hidden behind this gentleness. People of this category tend to put forward their elegant and feminine side, without putting aside their masculinity.
  • Their voice: modulated and median.
  • Favorite scents: the smell of rice powder, talc, delicate and powdery flowers (such as iris, violet, mimosa and peony); as well as faceted and nuanced scents. Men appreciate the smell of sweet woods, like sandalwood for example.
  • Favorite beverages: subtle orange blossom teas with jasmine or green teas; fresh fruit juices; champagne and gin cocktails and Mojito's in the evening; white wine rather than red one.
  • Favorite flavours:  light cuisine, salads, refined and elegant dishes, fish rather than meat; and light desserts. These people like to know the newest addresses of good, trendy restaurants.
  • Favorite colours: pastel tones or semi-tones, shades of blue, pale pink, beige, pale green.
  • Favorite fabrics: silk, taffeta, lace, cashmere, and all very feminine and cocooning textiles. Men especially appreciate soft wool.
  • Outdoors: beaches at the end of the day, cities where you can discover interesting, enriching, even romantic places.
  • A weekend of their dreams: a walk on the beach at the end of the day.
  • Favorite artists: Monnet, Bonnard, Matisse.
  • Favorite perfumes: facetted, subtle, perfumes with nuances, such as semi-oriental or sunny perfumes. Men are attracted by soft woody fragrances, or even by slightly floral fragrances, or those containing subtle spices.
