Choose a perfume for a wedding
Is your wedding day approaching? What perfume to wear for the big day? The choice of the fragrance for your wedding is very important. Its purpose, as always, is to reflect your personality, your olfactory identity. This is your signature, and all your life you will remember the perfume you wore on your wedding day. Victor Hugo knew it well, "Nothing awakens a memory like a scent".
The "to do list" of task is long. You have to find the location of the reception, choose the dress or the costume, select the suppliers, determine the wedding theme, plan the honeymoon, create the invitations... So many tasks that occupy your mind for almost a year before the big day. Nothing is more important: your wedding is your priority.
Your beauty and your appearance are probably at the centre of your concerns as you will be photographed all day long. You will give your hair and skin special attention and you will want to enhance your beauty with a nice makeup and wear a perfume that suits you.
But this long list of task may not worry you. On the contrary, it allows you to be organized and to prepare yourself to live in the moment to the fullest.
In reality, your wedding should be like you, it is a bit like your “manifesto”.
Do you want to change your perfume or find a "special" one for the big day?
First of all, you do not have to change your perfume for your wedding day. If you have a fragrance that suits you, that is truly your olfactory identity, wearing it on that day is natural and obvious choice for you (see Testing a perfume).
However you can opt for a lighter version for warmer seasons. Many brands offer lighter versions of the same perfume range (see Choose a perfume for a gift).
Avoid wearing over powerful and invasive fragrances on your wedding day.
Even if you are faithful to your perfume, you may also want to find "the perfume that will mark the beginning of your new life together", in order to seal your union even more. This perfume will become the symbol of your happiness and when you smell it or wear it again, a whole chain of pleasant memories will come back to you making you relive the beautiful emotions of this unique day in your life.
What season is your wedding?
The season when you are going to get married can help you decide which perfume you will wear on the wedding day. It is certain that we do not appreciate the same perfumes in winter, under the snow, or during the summer heat. In order to make a choice, it is good to know the olfactory register that appeals to you the most (see Choose a perfume for a gift, Testing a perfume).
- A bit of freshness in summer?
If you like fresh notes, you can choose between an eau de Cologne or an eau fraîches which will bring you lightness and freshness if the temperature rises (see Dovana, Oranzo by Sylvaine Delacourte). Fragrances with citrus notes or aromatic fragrances with lavender, rosemary or even mint accords are very pleasant in the hot season.
Finally, the so-called "green" fragrances with scents of crispy leaves or fresh cut grass will give you a delicate sensation of fresh nature perfect for summer days (see Green Facet).
On the other hand, if you prefer floral notes, fragrances with orange blossom accords with light, airy notes can bring you freshness. Floral scents based on jasmine or tuberose are more voluptuous and sensual (see Floral Family).
The powdery notes of iris or violet scents can set the tone for a touch of sophistication. As for rose, it can delight you for its freshness and mysteriousness.
- Or comfort in winter?
The cold winter season is perfect for cozy and comfortable scents.
If your prefer gourmand scents (see Gourmet Facet) like vanilla or if you are seduced by white musks that gives the soft sensation of wearing cashmere on your skin, Sylvaine Delacourte's Musks Collection and Vanilla Collection have a few fragrances that will make you want to curl up in a warm atmosphere (see Musky Facet).
In another register, chypre scents (see Chypre Family) with their undergrowth scents will affirm your charisma. Woody scents with notes of cedar, sandalwood, patchouli, or vetiver will allow you to distinguish yourself through your elegance and sensuality.
And if you like amber scents, also called "oriental" (see Oriental or amber family), these are based on mystical resins, patchouli, and vanilla. They will take you into a warm and intriguing universe. Apply this family of fragrances in light touches, as they are generally powerful.
Ideally, if you are unsure, make a consultation with a wise and experienced counselor (see Testing a perfume). Your olfactory heritage also has a determining role in the choice of your perfume.
The olfactory heritage
It is mainly built up before the age of 7, with all the positive smells and tastes that have positively marked your life.
Fortunately, your wealth continues to build up after the age of 7. After this age, your olfactory identity is gradually forged and enriched as your life unfolds. Each experience that brings you happiness is new data for your olfactory memory.
The ideal scent or "fragrance of your dreams" is the one that corresponds deeply to what you have built up from your varied positive and singular experiences, from your early childhood to today.
For this reason, the "ideal" fragrance for your wedding is the one that corresponds to the person you are.
So there is really no specific perfume for weddings, except perhaps orange blossom. First of all, this flower is culturally the symbol of purity and virginity, and then it perfectly matches the white colour of the bride's outfit. The advantage of orange blossom is that it can be orchestrated "fresh, or voluptuous, musky with very enveloping and comforting white musks, or addictive with gourmand notes", as Sylvaine Delacourte's Orange Blossom Collection proposes through 5 fragrances built around orange blossom.
In short, you might choose a fresher fragrance than usual if you are getting married in summer, but it should contain raw materials that echo within you, reminding you of good memories. If you are getting married during a period when it is cold, your perfume may be more comfortable, cocooning, more musky for example, but then again, it should correspond to who you deeply are.

Choose a perfume for a date
Choosing a fragrance is like choosing an olfactory identity. So even when it comes to finding a fragrance for a special occasion, such as a date, it is essential to choose a fragrance that matches your personality and taste, and that will be able to convey an authentic image to your date. Here are a few recommendations for choosing your fragrance for a date.
Choose a perfume for a gift
Choosing a perfume is like picking an olfactory identity for yourself or for someone else (see Testing a perfume). Deciding to offer a perfume as a gift is delicate because you need to know the person’s tastes. Either you know the fragrance they are faithful to or you decided to give them something new. In any case, offering a perfume as a gift is a great idea, but you must conduct a small investigation beforehand in order to really please the person concerned.
