L'Eau de Lit: a fragrance to accompany dreams and travels
Inspiration
Eau de lit, sold only in our Guerlain outlets, is a product I am proud of, because at the time, the idea was in my head, even though no request had been made by the marketing department.
I had long dreamed of a product that smelled like clean linen, the smell of sheets that had floated in the fresh wind of a country garden on a cool morning and had stolen all its aromatic and green scents in the process. In the base notes, I imagined musky notes that also smell clean, but that can also surround you with a cosy cocoon.
In 2005, I proposed this product to the marketing department, which was not immediately 100% convinced. When I presented the finished product, name and concept, the director said to me: “We'll put it in a limited edition and we'll see”.
This product was so successful that it is now a catalogue product and sales are constantly increasing. First of all, the perfume is appreciated all over the world. I proposed it during my numerous trips to Japan, the United States, Europe, Russia, etc. And I didn't have a problem with it. And I haven't had a single person who hasn't been seduced by this product! And it's a great gift idea, for about the same price as a beautiful bouquet of flowers, it's a home fragrance that will seduce all the people to whom you offer it.
How to use: on pillows, sheets, 5 minutes before going to bed, in the room, on curtains etc. I guarantee you, you will have sweet dreams. When you travel, take it in your suitcase, you will be happy to purify the air in your hotel room, you will recreate your little bubble of comfort with a very endearing scent.
History
At Guerlain, the art of perfume and the art of living have always been one and the same. In 1900, people perfumed their gloves as well as their handkerchiefs or their necklines; the scent underlined the gesture, a sign of refinement and good taste. The houses were also favoured by the perfumer. He would give them his rose or jasmine accords in potpourri, slip into wardrobes, between freshly starched sheets, and deposit a few scents in flannel pads. Today, Guerlain has reinvented one of these delicate traditions with Eau de Lit, whose use is like reading a love story.
More poetically: "She often gets up earlier because she knows that I like to stroll in the morning. With time, much is given to dreamy souls. I wrap my arms around her pillow, my nose dipped in cotton wool, and close my eyes. I see her again, as I do every night, snuggling up to me under the sheets. Naughty. The time for tenderness has come. Morpheus's charms have no hold, I prefer her pretty, well-prepared stratagem. She doesn't use perfume, she gives the bed this happiness to better mix her smell with it. The perfume of our love has this soft, aromatic and woody nuance that evolves with the desire and the heat of the bodies. At first, I smell a satiny freshness: bergamot and coriander leaves that a little star anise intoxicates with its liquorous accents. Subtly, this freshness fades; the floral notes of neroli and sage begin to disturb my senses. Addictive, they melt onto my skin and hers, nestling into her curves and capturing me. Then I embrace it, lulled by the vanilla and white musks that soften the cedar wood in a sensual body to body. The depth and sweetness remain as the memory of this perfume embraces the one of the images. The day begins well. Outside, the sheets flutter in the wind like a wink to this moment that I look forward to returning to in the evening.”
